Today (10/12/2025) we received confirmation that the Equality and Human Rights Commission has formally acknowledged Ocean 3D’s submission on virtual familiarisation tools and their potential role as an auxiliary aid under section 20 of the Equality Act 2010.
Our submission presents evidence from lived experience, clinical research, sector data and legal analysis showing that unfamiliar environments can create substantial barriers for many disabled people. Virtual familiarisation tools can help reduce this disadvantage by allowing people to explore a location or process in advance.
The EHRC has logged the submission as Case 14418908 and will consider the material as part of its statutory functions.
We continue, as always, to work with organisations across health, employment, transport, education and culture to support practical, low cost ways of making spaces more accessible and less anxiety provoking for those who face barriers.
