These graphs are for just one tour of one location at one college campus of one of our clients.
They are a powerful visual demonstration of the need almost everyone has for advance knowledge of the unknown, the unfamiliar, the new.
However, for millions of people with hidden disabilities, this ‘like’ or ‘need’ for advance information isn’t just a ‘would be nice’; it’s a ‘must have’….
Virtual tours can be the visual disability aid equivalent that a wheelchair or prosthetics are for an amputee.
These graphs show students, parent/carers and college staff accessing the colleges virtual tours created by Ocean3D.co.uk in order to find out where are their study rooms, the nearest washrooms and where to find somewhere to eat (cafeterias etc). Basic, everyday activities that most people take for granted.
Each peak shows a different demographic experiencing anxiety and a need for interactive visual information/ reassurance at differing points in the pre-term and term-time timeline.
6 weeks prior to term starting, there’s a spike of tour plays by (mainly) a student demographic, looking to reassure themselves where ‘things’ are. Significant spike in unique users at this point (quite likely to be disabled students, based on a focus group study we commissioned from University of Plymouth)
2 weeks prior to term starting, the page the tour is embedded into receives a surge of general interest and tour visits also climb. The demographic is predominantly students but also includes a sizeable chunk of adult professionals (HR departments take note). Some unique users visiting multiple times. This is ‘everyone’ able and disabled, all sharing the same need for information and reassurance.
4 days in, and the number of unique users peaks. This shows the student and staff population as a whole, using the tours to navigate their way around the campus location. It’s an interactive and engaging 3D photorealistic map.
