Ocean 3D is excited to announce the launch of its new virtual tour commissioned by The Theatre Royal Bath!
This innovative new tool will allow people with hidden and/ or physical conditions or disabilities to explore the theatre from the comfort of their own homes or, wherever they feel most comfortable to access and journey plan in advance, 24/7. Additionally, the tours will benefit all patrons who want to have a better idea of seating locations and views of the stage etc.

Based on legal advice from Doughty Street Chambers, virtual tours should be regarded as a reasonable adjustment under The Equality Act 2010 – “The ability to journey and destination plan. Should it be a reasonable adjustment..?”
Conclusions: For all of the above reasons, it is my opinion that:
(a) But for the provision of an auxiliary aid (the auxiliary aid being VR tours), people with the disabilities such as the ones in issue are placed at a substantial disadvantage when compared with those who do not share their disability;
(b) Service providers, employers (subject to having knowledge of the relevant disability) and further education providers have a duty to take such steps as is reasonable to have to take to provide the auxiliary aid;
(c) The provision of VR tours is highly likely to be considered as a reasonable step to have to take, given the relatively low cost, ease of implementation and the potential number of disabled beneficiaries.

How the Virtual Tour Was Created
The virtual tour was created by Ocean3D, a leading provider of interactive virtual reality and 360-degree content and the UKs’ leading accessibility specialists using this technology. Ocean3D used a variety of techniques to create the tour, including 360-degree photography and video, as well as Lidar scanning. The principal equipment used was the Matterport™️ Pro3 scanner/ camera.
