Great cultural News from the Government and even better that some Cornish Museums are already leading the way in their use of VR.
"Museums can be the perfect fusion between the sciences and the arts, with the creative sector and the humanities working together with new technologies to change how we can experience culture. Creating more ways of seeing and engaging with the treasure trove of experiences available at museums and exhibitions of all kinds means that we are at the forefront of designing the museums of the future.
The government is determined to build on this reputation by investing through programmes like this to expand access to our cultural riches.
This cutting-edge programme will help UK museums engage visitors with innovative new immersive experiences – as well as supercharging knowledge-sharing within our world-leading research sector." Science Minister Chris Skidmore
The article goes on to say that - Online interactive tours or live streams would open up the national collection to a diverse audience consuming culture and research - such as younger generations who spend more time online - and would also offer remote access options to those with mobility issues or in rural areas. - with Arts Minister Helen Whately saying "Our museums and galleries teach us about our past and help us to better understand the world around us. This funding will see cutting-edge tech enhance the visitor experience, providing exciting new ways for people to explore our history."
Ocean 3D has already created tours for The Museum of Cornish Life and Bodmin Keep - Cornwalls' Army museum https://www.ocean3d.co.uk/Gallery/Show/?tourId=107

This Smart Cities business development mission will focus on building partnerships and increase British companies’ knowledge about the Brazilian market needs. It will also better position UK's participants to develop collaborative arrangements with potential Brazilian partners and buyers, enabling them to pursue local business opportunities within selected cities in the Future Cities Programme and further afield.”
Companies invited to attend were ranked and selected by a board of specialists and the Future Cities Programme team in Brazil, who considered the following criteria:
• Readiness for technology implementation in Brazil
• Innovation level and applicability of solution in the local market
• Solution alignment with the priority areas of the Future Cities Programme
• Commercial development plan for Brazil
• Social and economic impact of the proposed technology
Chris Wood, Ocean 3D Director said “It is an incredible honour to be picked from such a huge and fiercely competitive group of UK based companies in the future tech business, especially hailing from the far South West of Cornwall”…”To have the opportunity to represent some of the Best of British engineering, technology, business and ideas in the largest city in South America with one of the most diverse groups of needs is awe inspiring. We were only notified on Friday that we had been selected and the event is at the end of March so, to attend, we are going to have to do some serious diary juggling as well as look to our academic and business mentor partners to help with logistics and flights etc.”

Containing over 1 Quadrillion pixels* the VR tour of the new £29 Million Middlemoor HQ that Cornwall based Ocean 3D Ltd have created for Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner office is not short of things to look at!
Commissioned by the DC PCC Alison Hernandez, the tour is open to the public to help reduce anxiety of vulnerable people, the disabled and those affected by rape and domestic violence who may have to attend the station to give evidence, be interviewed or attend court. The tour also serves a number of additional purposes including a superb familiarisation and accessibility friendly tool for new police and civilian staff, especially those who may have hidden conditions such as autism.
"By providing the user the ability to be able to view a new unfamiliar or, what may be for some, an intimidating location in advance on a smartphone, tablet or desktop in a safe environment of their choosing, victims of crime and vulnerable people are more likely to feel at ease and more able to come forward to help police catch the perpetrators." Said Chris Wood. Director of Ocean 3D Ltd
Scanned the day before the HQ officially started work (hence the occasional stack of IT boxes or IT technicians detritus ready to be skipped) and not yet annotated with the interactive information points (these are being added by the PCC in the near future); the tours have already been used to help new recruits, transferring officers and civilian staff to navigate their way around the 3,700 square metres and three floors of this incredible building.
For security reasons, not all of the building is shown however, users can take a look around a selection of new cells, exercise yards, custody suites and secure courtrooms as well as see the extensive new facilities that officers and civilian staff based at the HQ use.
* That's 1 with 15 zeros after it or, put differently, 1x10 to the power of 15. To really blow your mind, that's over 4,000 times more pixels contained in this tour than there are stars in the Milky Way!
